I recently met Siobhan and was instantly drawn in by her courage and views on self love and realness about finding ways to overcome anxiety. She is originally from Central Massachusetts, but moved to New hampshire for college and lived in Connecticut after graduating, so she is a true New Englander. She is now back in Massachusetts with her family and enjoying running her own business from home.
I asked Siobhan to tell us a little about herself and her business. Keep reading to learn more about her and how she uses her tea business to help others.
Make sure to follow her in her facebook Community, A mug of positivitea, or on instagram. She is brewing, infusing, and mixing the yummiest drinks almost daily!
Tell us about yourself
My name is Siobhan, I’ve been married for 6 years and have three kids! I stay home with my two youngest while my oldest is in school. I grew up in Southern Central Massachusetts and quickly moved to New Hampshire for college, mostly for the beautiful sceneries. I majored in Child Development with a concentration in Early Childhood Education and got my first job within a month of graduating in CT where I was living with my now husband and oldest son. I loved teaching and loved the people I worked with even more. But after having my middle, I knew I needed to be home and teaching MY babies while I still could. Since being home, I’ve taken on all sorts of hobbies: babywearing, weaving, and gardening are the ones that stuck! We recently moved back to Massachusetts and it has brought about great change for us as a family, including Sipology!
What is Sipology?
“Sipology is a loose leaf tea company that started in Canada, but launched in the US in July 2018. The husband and wife, soon-to-be parents, began their journey on Dragon’s Den (the Canadian version of Shark Tank), and after a bidding war, two Dragons teamed up and backed what was then known as Steeped Tea. Offering all natural loose leaf teas, matcha, and tea wares, they quickly grew, leading them to their expansion less than 7 years into the company.
All of our loose leaf teas, matcha, and kombucha follow Canadian, US, and EU regulations for all natural ingredients labeling. We leave out as much sugar as possible, and only use pure cane sugar when necessary. Sipology takes great pride in the importance of what is left out of our products, as well as what is put into them, which was just one of the many reasons that ranked high on my list of why I would support them.”
Did you always drink tea?
“No! I actually hated tea and knew NOTHING about loose leaf until I was introduced to Sipology! I only knew Lipton tea and prefered it mixed with lemonade. When my best friend joined Steeped Tea, I laughed at her thinking no one would actually BUY tea. But, being my best friend, she forced me to try every new tea that was delivered to her house, and slowly I started asking questions as I became obsessed. “
Why Did You Decide to Become A Sipologist?
“I had been drinking the teas for a year. I hosted multiple parties which were always killer and earned me more tea and teaware than what was on my wish list. Even after earning $100 in free teawares from hosting, I was finding I was still buying their monthly exclusives and extra bags of tea, JUST in case! Once we moved back to Massachusetts, I was feeling like I was ready for a COMPLETE change, something just for me. My husband was on board seeing as I would finally get PAID for sharing and buying all the tea, and it is hands down the best decision I’ve made!”
What is your favorite part about being a Sipologist?
“There are so many amazing things about being a Sipologist – our team of leaders are literally the best in the business, the founder personally connects with each Sipologist who seeks out support, and we get early access to monthly exclusives! But I think my favorite part about being a Sipologist is the community it has brought me. I used to be so introverted, anxious, and would shy away from most social situations. Now, I am excited to share all the things I learn and experiences I have in hopes I can help someone going through the same things that I did. I wouldn’t have found this necessary confidence if it weren’t for the company that is standing behind me! “
What is your favorite product that you offer?
“Hands down, matcha!
When my last baby was born about 2 years ago, I was told to stop drinking coffee. As a mom of three, coffee was what was keeping me alive day after day. My baby was struggling with nursing, gaining slowly but constantly spitting up everything he would eat, and he was just always awake and miserable. We had his lip and tongue tie revised which helped some, but he was still a nightmare to get to sleep at any point during the day. I was hopeful that cutting out coffee would give us the much needed relief we were seeking, but I was also terrified of how I was going to find the energy to keep up with all of these kids!
Enter: matcha.
I first tried vanilla matcha with Pumpkin Banana Bread veggie tea (and yes, it IS as good as it sounds!). At first, I drank it and went about my usual day. A few hours later my friend had asked me how I liked it and how I felt. I had told her it was delicious but I didn’t FEEL any different. It wasn’t until I started to think about what I had done that day that it hit me. I’m usually the type of person who will start one thing around the house, stop halfway through when I realise something else needs to get done, and bounce around until everything is half done. But after that first matcha drink, I was able to sit down and focus on stuffing, folding, AND putting away all 74+ cloth diapers in our collection – something I’ve NEVER done. And the best part? I didn’t have jitters like I did with coffee, I didn’t have a hard crash like I did with coffee, and MY BABY SLEPT!!! I was instantly hooked and never looked back!”
