Eighty three percent of American adults drink coffee. Most of these people are probably hooked for it’s energy producing caffeine. But is there a better way to get the energy we crave? Read on for a comparison of Matcha vs coffee. Is the super tea really superior to coffee?
What is Matcha?
Matcha is a high grade green tea that is ground into a powder. It is rich in antioxidants and amino acids to improve health. With other teas and coffee, you steep the product in boiling water and remove the excess. Matcha is different in that you ingest the whole plant and all of the nutrients. Let’s get a closer look at these benefits.
Caffeine: Give me all the energy
While coffee does have higher levels of caffeine at 90-150mg per cup, matcha gives you a more clean, long lasting high with only 35-40mg of caffeine. Coffee’s energy producing caffeine will last from 1-3 hours with a very steep spike and crash. Matcha will give you a jitter free energy that stretches out over 6hrs. This is due to the amino acid L-Theanine.
L- Theanine
L-theanine helps by slowly releaseing the caffeine in the body for a calming alertness with no energy crash at the end.
Healthy Antioxidants
Antioxidants are compounds found in food that protect the cells of our body from the damaging effects of free radicals that cause aging and disease. While studies have shown that coffee has antioxidants, matcha is much more rich with 10x more of these important nutrient.

Other Health Benefits of Matcha
Increased antioxidants is not the only added benefit of Matcha. There are many more reasons to switch your morning beverage.
Catechins- The Cancer Fighting Fat Burner
The Catechin, EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) found in Matcha has been shown to boost metabolism and stop the growth of fat cells. This potent antioxidant also has cancer fighting properties.
Chloryphll- Added Fiber and Nutrients
Because you are ingesting the whole tea leaf when you drink Matcha, you are getting more of the nutrients, including chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been proven to fight cancer, increase wound healing, help decrease acne, and build blood cells.
Vitamins A and C
Vitamin A and C are both necessary for the repair of body tissues. They strengthen the immune system and are important for wound healing and the absorption of iron.
Matcha is Easy to Make
Matcha is super easy to make. All you have to do is whisk it into any liquid. Whether you want to enjoy yours plain in water or added to another tea or milk. No steeping or brewing required
