The winter is brutal to the skin. Dry, cold weather causes increased cracking. It can seem impossible sometimes to keep it intact, but using these tips will help you know how to keep your skin healthy.
Drink Plenty of Water
Your body is made up of 70% water. When it is depleted, even slightly, you will see dullness, drying and increased wrinkles. That is why water is number one for how to keep your skin healthy.
Make your goal to drink at least half your body weight in oz and you will see a huge improvement in your skin. Brighter, tighter, and more full.

Continue to Wear Sunscreen
Summer is not the only time your skin needs protection. The winter sun is closer and therefore can cause burning faster in the winter months. This burning will cause increased aging like hyperpigmentation and wrinkles.
In colder climates we do spend less time outside during the winter, but especially protect your skin if you are into winter sports like skiing and snowshoeing.
Maintain a Skincare Routine
Our skin is the largest barrier against infection, so having a daily routine to keep it strong and protect it from cracking is important. Using gentle soaps and moisturizing daily is key.
The skins surface should have a pH of 5.5, which is slightly acidic. This protective layer is known as the acid mantle. When using soaps that foam and strip this layer, you will be leaving your skin open to increased infection and an imbalance in oils. The oils produced by your body will be throw off and either cause drying or too much oil production. Choose a gentle soaps with no sulfates to correct this.
The lactic acid in Tres Leches’ 3 step system gently cleans and maintains the pH at 5.5 to bring balance and harmony to the skin of the face. Learn more about how you can protect your skin with the Tres Leches skin care line here.
Exfoliate Weekly
As we age the rate at which our skin cells turn over and renew slows. This slowing process causes dead skin cells to clump together and build up on the surface of the skin. This build up of dead cells causes dry patches and dullness. Exfoliating weekly will help remove the skin cells and make way for the brighter skin below.
Chemical exfoliators are a gentle alternative to physical exfoliators that can leave small scratches all over the face. Chemical exfoliators use either AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids, e.g. glycolic and lactic acids) or BHA (beta hydroxy/salicylic acid) to break up the dead skin cells on the surface of the face allowing the skin to naturally shed. Because of this, you will see the greastest results from the exfoliator within the few days after using it.
The Milk Masque from Maskcara Beauty using natural Lactic acid, a AHA, found in milk to allow the skin to appear younger and more vibrant.
