Learn to Highlight and Contour with ease
Highlight and contour. Those terms scare many. Does the concept leave you confused? Well it doesn’t have to anymore and we have Maskcara Beauty to thank for that. With their one of a kind 3D foundation, you can apply your makeup in just 5 easy steps.
Gone are the days of a one color foundation, layered and caked with so many products. With Maskcara Beauty’s 4 step products, you can be ready and out the door in as little as 5 minutes. It all goes on in one layer so you can feel more comfortable and confident. You are beautiful, so lets learn how to enhance that beauty, not smother it. Be sure to watch the video posted below for a more detailed tutorial of how the products work.
Step 1: Highlighter
Apply your highlight shade or shades all over your face using the 30 second HAC double sided brush. Your highlight will be the product that is closest to the natural tones of your face. You can start with contour, but I recommend highlighting first for those with blemishes and those that maybe need to get the hang of the contouring thing. Even with maskcara there can be a learning curve. The best part is the products are very forgiving and blend together beautifully.
If you want to view my post about how to contour first, you can find that with a video tutorial here. I am using the shades aura and candlelit in the images above.
Step 2: Contour
This is the fun part! This is the part that brings all the dimension back to your face. This step will help lift and sculpt your features. So flip that brush over and lets begin.
Contour goes directly below your cheek bone, starting from the top of your ear and going no further than the outside edge of your pupil (that is the black center of your eye.) I like to curl mine up just slightly as I am coming to the apples of my cheeks (the most prominent part of my cheeks).
You can also place it on the top of your forehead and along your jawline. This will help make your forhead appear smaller and bring warmth and frame the face.
The last thing to contour is your nose. Take the brush and gently drag it down the sides of the nose. Our faces naturally has shadows around the bone structure, so this step will help give a more natural appearance. Again, you can use the contour to slim and shape the nose to your liking. Remember when you are going down the sides that you get the lines close enough together so you do not make your nose appear wider. Below you can find a video tutorial that better explains this step.
I am using the shade Stone in the image above.
Step 3: Lip and Cheek
Maskcara Beauty’s lip and cheeks serve the dual purpose of blush and lip color. All the products I am mentioning are cream and wax based so they are very versatile. Apply the lip and cheek to the apples of your cheeks and blend toward your ears. Be sure to stay about one inch from your nose and one inch from your eyes. Applying the blush too close to these features will make your face appear older and take away the lifted effect you created with the contour.
Next you can apply the same color to your lips.

Step 4: Illuminator
Illuminator is what the traditional beauty world refers to as highlighter. It is that glow that you see on the very tops of the cheek bone. This step will give your skin a healthy dewy appearance and further accentuate the lifted effects of the contour.
I use my finger to apply illuminator directly on top of my cheek bone, up towards my ear. I also love it on my brow bone, down the bridge of my nose and on my cupids bow (very tip of my top lip)
I am using the shade pearl in the images above.
5. Blend and Set
Use the perfector sponge to seamlessly marry the colors together. Dabbing the sponge up and down is the best way to blend. Never drag the sponge down. If you need to move product around, always go in upward motions. Keep your makeup looking flawless all day with the Stay Setting Spray. Learn more the beneficial ingredients of the stay spray here.
