There can be lots of circumstances that leave you unable to go out for date night with your partner. With these 10 at home date night ideas, you can find the same sense of intimacy and create some of your best date nights right at home.
I know finding ways to connect together while surrounded by the responsibilities of home can seem tough. It’s great to get out, but it is important to find ways to connect when your only option is to stay in.
1. Read Aloud Together
Reading aloud is something we have done together since the start of our relationship. It is a much slower pace than just watching a movie, but has the same veg out feel. Bonus! You get to hear your favorite voice on the planet tell you an epic adventure.
2. Rearrange or Redecorate a Room
Okay, is anyone else as crazy as me about this? I love to move furniture around every so often. I used to do it every few months even as a kid. Changing up the layout of furniture or moving pieces from other rooms will spark creativity and you will have a new inviting place to spend time together next date night in.
3. Cook Something Unique
Cooking again may not seem too inviting as you may have been doing this ALL DAY LONG. This is a time to come up with something you would never have time for, something you wouldn’t cook in everyday life. Another date night in that will get you creating and connecting.
4. Order in, but make it fancy
Ahhh, thats better. No work. No distractions. Hot food. When is the last time you ate hot food? Bring your favorite restaurant home. Set the mood with candles and music. This can be more intimate and exciting than sitting in a crowded restaurant.
5. Create a Bucket List
What do you want for your future? Where do you want to visit? What activities do you want to do? Dream together. Bring it up a notch by creating a board that will continue to inspire you to follow those dreams when you see it.
6. Theme Nights
When you are limited with at home date night ideas, it is good to pick a theme to make it more fun. Create a beach night by making tropical cocktails, bringing in the umbrella and beach chairs. Step it up a notch with a tray full of sand to bury your feet in. Or choose a country on your bucket list. Create a scene from that country and play some of that cultures music and films.
7. Show some interest in each others hobbies
When you show interest in each others hobbies, they might become yours too. Make sure your partner is happy with sharing their special place. I will never forget the video game debacle of 2012. You don’t have to love it, but showing appreciation for it and listening to the joy it brings your partner, even for the night, will bring you closer.
8. Dance Together
I saved my favorite tips for these last three at home date night ideas. You probably already use Youtube for lots of things. You can find instructionals for just about anything! You can use this to your advantage by taking a free dance lesson right in your living room.
9. Exercise Together
Endorphins. Enough said when it comes to love. Finding a couples specific routine (again FREE on youtube) is a super intimate way to keep both your bodies and love connection healthy.
10. Couples Massage
Sure, this is a no brainer date night in idea, but if you or your partner are not that gifted at physical touch, you can use Youtube again. Pop up a lesson on massage and follow the tutorial as you give your partner a rub down. Can you tell one of my love languages is physical touch yet? Don’t know what that means? Continue on to the BONUS DATE for more info.
